A Cozy Fall Family Session at Shawnee Mission Park 🍂


There’s something about those first few weeks of fall that I absolutely love. The air starts to feel a little cooler, the light takes on that warm golden glow, and the trees slowly begin trading their summer greens for all the beautiful colors of autumn.


This family session at Shawnee Mission Park captured that exact moment — that sweet spot between summer and fall when everything still feels lush and green, but you can tell the season is beginning to change.


And with mom, dad, and their little one in front of my camera, it was the perfect evening to capture this little family exactly as they were in that season of life.


Golden Light & The Beginning of Fall


We had one of those gorgeous fall evenings photographers dream about, warm sunshine, soft golden light, and just enough color starting to peek through the trees.


Shawnee Mission Park is one of my favorite Kansas City locations for family photography because there are so many different backdrops to work with. Open fields, wooded areas, trails, and beautiful pockets of light make it easy to create a gallery that feels varied while still telling one cohesive story.


For this session, we kept things relaxed and natural. There was plenty of time for cuddles, little smiles, exploring, and all those in-between moments that make family photographs feel like your family. And honestly, those are often my favorite images.


The perfectly posed photo is wonderful to have, but there is something so special about the way a baby reaches for mom, the way dad makes them laugh, or the little moments when everyone forgets the camera is even there. Those are the photographs that take you right back.

One of my favorite things about family photography is that every session represents a little snapshot in time. Your baby won't always be this tiny. Those little hands won't always fit perfectly into yours. And the way your family looks and feels right now will change before you even realize it.

Early fall sessions can give you warm sunlight and mostly green trees with those first hints of autumn color, while later sessions bring deeper fall tones and changing leaves. There really isn't a bad time to capture your family here.
